One wrong twist
Separation of tissue
In just the right place
One tiny microbe
One chaotic cell
We are incredibly fragile
I know it sounds trite
But every day
Every breath
Every heartbeat
Is a miracle
All that seems so real
Heavy, permanent
Dependable
Whosh
Gone in a moment
These fleshly eyes
Just can’t see
The one thing
The only thing
That is actually real
We get a whiff, a glimpse
A peek
But the only thing
That isn’t fragile
That can’t be broken
Can’t be understood
This side of heaven
So how do we live that
How do we live that out
Daily, being attached
But not dependant
Being present
But not focused
Knowing it will all fade
Knowing it won’t last
That it is not ours
To govern or protect
It’s just not ours at all
Period
Not even that breath
Not even that heartbeat
God, teach us how to love deeply
With a light touch
Teach us how to give our all
To the only real thing
